Beautiful Christmas wedding photography in the New Forest
Rhinefield House is a fabulous wedding venue deep in the New Forest
Rhinefield House is a truly elegant wedding venue tucked inside the New Forest in Hampshire, combining striking 19th-century architecture with romantic grounds and historic charm. Approached by a driveway lined by Canadian redwood and copper beech trees, the house itself is a beautiful blend of Tudor and Gothic styles. The interiors preserve original features, lending a sense of character and grandeur. Outside, there are around 40 acres of private woodland and ornamental gardens, with ponds and scenic spots that make for breathtaking photo opportunities. For ceremonies, you have options like an imposing Great Hall (inspired by Westminster Hall) or the Doric Temple in the gardens, and the property also offers substantial overnight accommodation
Why Rhinefield House is Perfect for Small and Intimate Weddings
As a wedding photographer, I love venues that have character in every corner — and Rhinefield House is full of it. Deep in the New Forest, this grand old house manages to feel both stately and welcoming, which makes it perfect for smaller, more intimate celebrations. I’ve photographed weddings here where just a few dozen guests gathered in rooms like the Keepers Room, surrounded by wood panelling and soft window light that pours in from the gardens outside. The atmosphere is unhurried, and because everything is close at hand, the ceremony, drinks, portraits and dinner, couples can really relax and enjoy being present with the people they love most.
When guest lists are smaller, the focus shifts beautifully toward the couple’s connection, and Rhinefield’s mix of grandeur and gentle warmth makes every moment look cinematic. The private gardens and ornamental ponds offer wonderful spots for portraits, quiet, secluded and full of natural beauty, while inside, the rich textures and old-world charm create endless opportunities for storytelling through photographs.
Wedding Photography at Rhinefield House is a joy
Hannah and John’s wedding at Rhinefield House was an absolute joy to photograph. You could see the happiness written all over Hannah’s face — she didn’t stop smiling the whole afternoon. The weather was kind to us too, giving us the chance to wander the gardens and explore the beautiful grounds of this lovely New Forest hotel.
Hannah looked incredible in her “foresty” gown, with her long Pre-Raphaelite hair catching the light as we moved between the trees and the lawns. We’d hoped to meet again for a Cherish the Dress photoshoot, but our diaries just wouldn’t align — though honestly, her radiance on the day itself was unforgettable.
Christmas Weddings in the New Forest
Winter weddings in the New Forest have something truly special about them. The air feels stiller, the light softer, and when you step inside somewhere like Rhinefield House, the whole place glows. The Great Hall, with its high vaulted ceiling and oak panelling, takes on an almost magical quality in December — garlands on the banisters, a towering Christmas tree, and candlelight flickering against the stained glass windows. It’s the kind of setting where every photograph feels like it belongs in a classic winter storybook.
Outside, the forest can look breathtaking with frost on the branches and mist drifting between the trees — perfect for a few quiet portraits while guests gather by the fire indoors. We’ve found that small winter weddings here often feel the most heartfelt: fewer guests, warmer lighting, and a sense of everyone being tucked away together from the cold. Add in seasonal touches like mulled wine, deep green and gold décor, and a candlelit dinner, and Rhinefield becomes a truly magical place to capture love at Christmas.
