Every spring, the village of Burley comes alive with music, colour, folklore and community spirit as the New Forest Green Man Parade winds its way through the heart of the village close to Beltane. This vibrant celebration brings together locals, visitors, performers, artists and nature lovers in a joyful expression of seasonal change, ancient traditions and modern pagan revival.
The Green Man, an enduring symbol of rebirth, nature and the cycle of life, stands at the centre of the parade. Surrounded by drummers, dancers, woodland characters and people in elaborate costumes inspired by folklore and mythology, the event creates an atmosphere that feels both timeless and deeply rooted in the landscape of the New Forest. This is the second year I have worked with the Green Man Parade, documenting the event offers a chance to photograph genuine emotion, creativity and community participation in one of the most atmospheric settings in southern England. From expressive portraits and detailed costumes to spontaneous moments of celebration, the event provides rich storytelling opportunities for documentary and creative photography alike.
