Festival style wedding at “not” a New Forest wedding venue

Festival style telling their own story

Gillie and Tom’s festival style wedding was a marvel of what you can do with vision and energy. The festival theme totally reflected their life together, what they enjoy doing and how they spend their time, and their social life. And in fact, it turns out we hang out at the same festivals such as the brilliant Larmer Tree.

“Not” a New Forest wedding venue

No, in fact their venue was a working farm hidden away in the New Forest. They chose it because Gillie used to walk across it when she was younger and then used to take Tom there too. And having looked around at more conventional settings, they chose this one. Which meant an awful lot of working getting everything together, such as the marquee, the loos, the electrics, the caterers, so much. But they did it.

Conducted by a celebrant

To make the wedding truly their own, it was conducted by a celebrant and incorporated many themes. The legal wedding had taken place a few days earlier at a registry office but it was this festival wedding in the New Forest that they regarded as the important event, witnessed by all their friends and family.

Storytelling weddings

The wedding photography you see is of course just such a small part of day but still captures the story, from the preparations at the New Forest home where Gillie grew up, arriving on a horse and cart so reflective of the rural community. The ceremony itself under the oak tree for which the venue was chosen, dad’s speech (and not shown here, but Gillie breaking tradition by making a speech herself) and that whole lovely festival theme. Not forgetting Tom’s band playing in the evening, with Tom on the double bass.

Do it your way

And all of these just goes to show you don;t have to follow what the magazines tell you is the latest fad, the must have thing – just do it your way. It’s your day. And it’s amazing how much you can DIY – do it yourself. Except the photograph of course. Don’t just get a long selfie stick, get a professional in.
