Erica and Paddy wed at The Orchid Hotel
“Where have you been all my life”
The Orchid Hotel was the venue for one of my very special friends, Erica, when she committed to a future with the lovely Paddy. I’ve known Erica for many years, through the ups and the downs that life throws at all of us and I was so happy when she told me about Paddy, and even happier when I met him and realised that he was the one for her. So happy! “Where have you been all my life?” describes what she felt as she got to know him.
Wedding guest or wedding photographer?
I have been in this situation before, present in both categories. Initially Erica wanted me there solely as a guest to celebrate with her, and she asked me for some recommendations of other photographers I liked and trusted. Sorry guys, she didn’t want any of you; she kept coming back to me and eventually booked my beautiful little Bijou package.
The Orchid Hotel was wonderful
Having photographed so many weddings in so many venues, I get a feeling for a venue very quickly, and during our final pre-wedding consultation at The Orchid Hotel, I was really impressed with their helpfulness and their ideas. They really went that extra mile to help Erica and Paddy, spotting possible issues and suggesting solutions to help not just the day but also the run up to the day go as smoothly as possible. Sadly not everywhere is as helpful.
Rain on the day
Every bride’s nightmare, and every photographer’s challenge… Rain, just at the time we didn’t need it, after the ceremony when we about to go out to the courtyard for the group photographs. Tim at the hotel had an amazing app on his phone, Snow Radar, which alerted us to the rain coming in, and so we could be ready with plan B. Which worked beautifully at The Orchid. The ceremony room was cleared quickly and efficiently while guests mingled with drinks, and then when it was ready we used it as the location for all the groups, including the big shot of everyone. Fortunately, the wedding wasn’t that big! And later on, while it was dry, Erica changed her mind about going to the beach as planned, so we used the ceremony room and the courtyard for the couple photographs.
